Everything you need to sit down at a board and play a full match — straight from Gerg's original ruleset, adapted for the server.
Chegg is a turn-based, deck-building strategy game, originally designed to be played live inside Minecraft, and now fully automated on this server. Minions are represented by spawn eggs, drawn from a personal deck, and placed onto a checkerboard-style arena.
The game is built to be adaptable. Beyond the roster covered here, players are encouraged to dream up their own minions and house rules with their opponent.
Chegg is played on a 10×8 checkerboard. The two back rows on either end are colored: one red, one blue, and mark each player's spawn zone.
The middle of the board can be customized by mutual agreement between players, see Arena Mods below for ideas the server supports.
At the start of every match, each player places their Villager somewhere inside their spawn zone. The Villager functions like a King in chess — the goal of the match is to eliminate the opponent's Villager. Whoever does it first wins.
A deck is 15 minions of your choosing. At the start of a match, your deck is shuffled and you draw from it one minion at a time.
| Moment | What happens |
|---|---|
| Start of the match | Each player draws 3 minions into their opening hand |
| Start of every turn after that | The player whose turn it is draws 1 minion |
Mana is the currency behind everything you do on your turn: spawning minions, attacking, dashing, and some unique abilities. Your mana pool ranges from 0 to a cap of 6.
| Turn | Mana available |
|---|---|
| Turn 1 | 1 |
| Turn 2 | 2 |
| … | … |
| Turn 6 and beyond | 6 (capped) |
Mana fully refreshes at the start of every turn, anything you don't spend is discarded, not saved.
There are three core ways to spend mana:
Spawning. Every minion has a mana cost, shown on its card. Spawn it from your hand onto any open square in your spawn zone.
Attacking. Attacking always costs 1 mana if the minion attacking isnt the whiter — the range and shape of the attack depends entirely on the minion. As an example: a Skeleton can strike diagonally up to 3 squares away, so for a single mana it can eliminate an enemy sitting on that diagonal.
Example: a Skeleton's attack range (shown in red). It moves laterally, but strikes diagonally up to 3 squares out.
Dashing. Every minion on the board gets 1 free move per turn. After that free move is used, it can move again for 1 mana: that's a dash. A minion cannot dash and attack in the same turn, and it can't move again after attacking, even with its free move still unused.
A minion's dash usually extends its normal move pattern further in the same directions.
Friendly fire is real for area attacks like the Creeper and Puffer-Fish, double-check what's standing near your target before you commit.
